By helping organisations set priorities, measure progress and continually improve, it offers a route from intention to accountable action. Its real value will depend on whether it drives meaningful outcomes rather than another layer of certification.

🤖 Who gets to shape the future of AI?

Developing nations are seeking a role in shaping AI rules—not simply receiving technologies and standards created elsewhere. AI could widen access to knowledge, services and opportunity, but it may also deepen inequality, displace workers and reinforce dependency. Responsible governance must ask who designs AI, who benefits and who carries the risks.

📊 Sustainability reporting stays the course

Despite political and regulatory uncertainty, many US companies continue to publish sustainability reports, although with less publicity. Growing attention to double materiality, ISSB alignment, data and external assurance suggests greater scrutiny. Yet reduced workforce disclosures and more off-track or repositioned targets remind us that better reporting does not automatically mean better performance.

🤝 Rethinking “formal” and “informal” finance

Community finance—from savings groups to the Islamic tradition of waqf—shows that finance has always rested on trust, responsibility and relationships. These models can widen access where conventional systems exclude people, particularly women without recognised collateral. They can also create pressures and exclusions. The deeper question is how every financial system distributes opportunity, obligation, risk and power.
